An ancient Roman blue glass flask, 1st-2nd Century A.D.
A rare Roman cobalt blue striated four-sided glass flask, the neck having turquoise ring turned applied decoration, the shoulders of the vessel having four appliqued orange/gold glass ‘cabochons’. Each side of the flask has a circular applique cameo of an Emperor’s head in relief, below, the flask has turquoise glass feathered decoration, the vessel with a rounded base and stands on a black metal stand.
The flask having surface iridescence and some other surface deposits, plus some internal deposits, but otherwise the vessel is in remarkable condition.

Provenance; From the private collection of Mr. Lawrence Fleischman, the former Chief Executive and partner of The Kennedy Gallery, Manhattan, NY. Mr. Fleischman was an authority on American Art and a great philanthropist, he had an extensive & important collection of Greek & Roman antiquities, the bulk of which was donated to the J. Paul Getty Museum in California. This vessel along with some other Etruscan antiquities had passed by descent to his daughter Rebecca.
