The circular top with striking geometric inlay in three different woods creating an almost optical illusion of depth. The top rests on a turned inlaid column terminating in three splayed legs, also inlaid. The city of Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast in Italy is famous for the manufacture of these types of tables, almost always constructed in walnut and typically having geometric inlay and other decorative inlay work to the top. This table acquired in neighbouring Malta, is a classic example of the work done in that city from the early 19th century onward.
