Vintage Design
This finely crafted bureau plat was conceived in the Louis XVI style and is rectilinear in style. Featuring its original maroon leather inset top with tooled edge and some traces of gilding still visible. The top features a simple line of stringing but is otherwise undecorated barring an edge moulding. The drawer fronts, however, are extensively inlaid in the parquetry manner, i.e. with repeating geometric motifs in contrasting woods. The centres of each of the drawer fronts feature chevron patterns inlaid in tulipwood. The drawers all retain their original neoclassical style escutcheon and handle plates. The sides of the piece have more inlaid tulipwood parquetry panels. There are extending slides to both sides. The legs and pilasters are also inlaid with contrasting crossbanded woods, edged with stringing. In form the legs are square sectioned, tapering down to block feet.
The parquetry work is extremely well executed. A very nice table finished at the back to match the front, therefore could be freestanding in a room
