Finely woven of wool and linen, this large, ancient, museum level Coptic textile depicts figures derived from classical antiquity, some playing musical instruments, with numerous animals. This has led one scholar to suggest that it depicts the myth of Orpheus. Although this is a fragment from an ancient (3rd/4th C A.D.) tunic, it is unusual to find such a large example. It has been professionally cleaned and museum mounted, and is framed and under glass.
