The porcelain clock dial bears the signature “Labaume, à Severac le Chateau,” presented in an embossed frame, dating back to circa 1870.
Due to the soft pine wood used in the construction of comtoise cases, termites are attracted to it. As a result, many comtoise cases did not survive due to termite damage, along with the trend of clocks being sold and displayed for a period without their cases, leading to many comtoise cases being discarded. Consequently, it is becoming more and more rare nowadays to find the clock complete with its original case. Painted cases, in particular, are highly decorative objects.
This case has been treated against termites for obvious reasons 😉 The clock works. Roman numerals.
