This antique wall plaque was made by the Royal Berlin Porcelain Factory in the early 1800s in an Ancient Greek Revival style. The plaque depicts a metaphorical interpretation of Helios, the God of The Sun. Helios is represented as a reclining robed male figure in a crescent Moon and holding one hand up to block the Sun’s rays. The outer edges of this stylized diamond shaped plaque are decorated with an elaborate scrolled motif and accented with hand painted variations of deep rust, or burgundy hues. The plaque is stamped in cobalt blue with the Royal Berlin maker’s mark on the back.
