An enchanting hand embroidered crewel needlework tapestry wall hanging with a flowering tree of life design on a light wheat color ground. Circa 1930s or 40s, this is a transitional style between Art Deco and Modernist with a Jacobean flair. it’s somewhat evocative of Clarice Cliff. Color of the ground is more towards the detail shots than the overall photo. Measurements exclude the brass hanging loops. Backed with cotton sateen and lined with striped flannel. Stiffened at the top with a partial yardstick that appears to be a later addition. Please excuse the thumb tacks used to hang this for the photos.

The large leaf directly over the bird has a large but extremely faintly darker stain, however it appears to be a residue and it seems like it would be fairly straightforward for a conservation professional to remove as also seems likely for the smaller spots. One hanger is present but detached and safety pinned to this. less
