Dressing table Chandlo designed by Doshi Lieven in 2012, manufactured by BD Barcelona. “Chandlo” means moonlike in form, or a bindi which is a colored dot worn by Indian women on their foreheads, making reference to the large framed mirror which stands out in this piece. Its composition is apparently abstract and is based on gestures and daily rituals carried out when we dress and groom. Materials: Structure: Solid ash fitted out in black matte. Table legs: Tubular steel painted in a brilliant green. Tabletop: Mixed natural minerals and polymers Mirror: Steel frame, painted in red Back mirror: Black MDF painted with a graphic pattern in brillant white. Jewelry box: Plywood (ebony) Stool: Structure in plywood (rosewood) and legs in steel, painted in brillant black. Upholstered in dark grey with a bordered grid, in an aluminium color. Dimensions: Dressing table: D 165 cm x W 65 cm x H 144 cm Stool: Ø 43 x H 45 cm Production delay: 8 weeks. About the designer: Doshi Levien is a London based design office, established in 2000 by Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien. Doshi Levien’s work celebrates the hybrid and explores the coming together of cultures, technology, story telling, Industrial Design and fine craftsmanship. Working across disciplines and industries, they make their own rules that are based on extracting as much richness as possible out of an idea. Doshi Levien work for a broad range of clients, including Moroso, Swarovski, Intel, Camper, Authentics, Cappellini and now BD Barcelona Design. About BD Barcelona: Accompanied with artisanal processes instead of mass production, their products always have more proximity to art than Industrial Design. Characterized by superior quality, short-series productions (and on occasion limited editions), and unique pieces due to crafted manufacturing. In the 1970s, BD pleasantly surprised by editing Gaudí’s furniture for his famous buildings and in the early 1990s, BD again astounded by introducing an exclusive first collection of furniture and lamps designed by Dalí. Recently the collections and designers with an accentuated artistic profile like Jaime Hayon and Doshi Levien, continue to point the way where design and art meet together. Design meets Art, since 1972.
