Modern Bust of a Roman Soldier

The figure holds a slight contrapposto between the head and the chest plate area. The chest is colored white while the face and base retain a normal terracotta color. Special attention is paid to realistic hair and facial features. We believe the armor on the chest area depicts a scene with various mythological figures interacting. The left-hand side might be Mars (Ares) driving the cart of immortal horses (Hippoi Athanatoi) with Jupiter (Zues) in the middle watching over the events. The right-hand figure appears to be a slightly Anglo-Christian like version of an angel, rather than amor/cupid. Given the modernized nature of the piece and Rome’s history with Christianity, the figure being an angel may be up for interpretation.

This piece was made with care and a high attention to detail. It originated from a private collection and would make for a great feature in a living room or entrance to any classical home. In excellent condition. “Made in Italy” mark is featured on the bottom along with a signature. In excellent condition.
