This is a solid bronze figurine sculpture of Hermes or Mercury from Greek and Roman mythology respectively, and we date the figure to the 19th century, probably by a French or Austrian maker.
The bronze figure is well sculpted in good clear detail.
The bronze has developed a lovely depth of color which is difficult to capture in a photograph, the bronze metal being well patinated showing a naturally lighter color to the higher points of the figure where it has been handled and polished over the years.
We cannot find any signatures or markings on this piece.

In Greek mythology, “Hermes” is one of the gods of Olympus. He is the god of commerce, the guardian of roads and intersections, travelers, thieves and the conductor of souls to the Underworld. He is the messenger of the gods (especially Zeus). He corresponds to the “Mercury” of the Romans.
