Early Vintage Pair of Brass Spanish Treasure Ship Andirons, circa 1920s, cast brass image of the square-rigged Spanish Galleon “Don Fernando” under full sail, with gunports open, pennants flying at mastheads, a grand figurehead gracing the bows, and a sternboard embossed “Don Fernando.”
The andirons remain in fine condition, with of course a tarnished patina, and only the wire at leading edge of fore sails a bit astray.
There were a number of historic galleons named Don Fernando (de la ____), most likely named in commemoration of the Admiral Ferdinand Magellan.
