With early 20th century lighting as one of our specialties we are certain that this Classical Revival alabaster chandelier was one of the first alabaster chandeliers that was created. Electric lighting in Europe became available between 1900 and 1910, but at first it was only affordable for businesses and for the very well to do in Europe’s major cities. Those wealthy Europeans mostly lived in homes / mansions that were built circa 1880 and 1890. For us, therefor, it came to no surprise that this amazingly carved and large chandelier from circa 1900 was created in the neoclassical style. It was created in that style, simply because those 1880s and 1890s houses in Europe were predominantly in that neoclassical style. This chandelier’s unique design and large size make it truly imposing, but the hand carved acanthus leafs and the striking guirlandes really take it to a different level. They are the best carvings we have ever seen in an alabaster pendant. For this incredible work of lighting art to be in truly excellent condition makes it even more special. Even the faux candles are carved out of alabaster and they too are in superb condition (they can and will be removed for safer shipping). With the original hook inside the equally stunning, large and all hand carved canopy this light is easy and safe to mount on your ceiling as well. This amazing fixture is rewired to the highest standard for safe and immediate usage the world over and when sold to one of our American clients, we will also attach American sockets. If you can already envision this one of a kind European chandelier in one of your rooms then maybe you should be its next custodian.
